So today I went into New York City to visit the MoMA (Museum of Modern Art.) For my photography class we have to write an exhibit review of a photography exhibit, and the professor gave us some to pick from. So my mom and I went into the city and she wanted to walk from Penn Station all the way to the museum. "It's only two miles" Reality check: it's below freezing and it just snowed. So I made her take the subway. It was really easy, you take the E uptown 4 stops and get off, you are piratically at the museum entrance. She was so impressed with us. Over a 4 stop non-transfer subway ride. oh wow mom. I can do this in Italian, German, and Spanish also, English is pretty easy. She really needs to get out more or something. The museum was pretty cool though. I had to see the exhibit on Jeff Wall who is a photographer who makes these huge pieces. and he sets most of them up, based on things he actually saw happening. He calls it "near documentary" since he saw it happen, but then went out and got actors and recreated the scene and photographed it. You can see his work in this pretty cool interactive web site:
Jeff Wall Exhibit. I really like "Doorpusher" and "Dead Troops Talk" We were just in time for a free guided tour (like if we'd been 10 minutes later we would have missed it) which was very informative and will help a lot with my paper, which i will write tomorrow.
So here is a picture of "Doorpusher" keep in mind that this picture is almost life size and basically huge. But i love the story factor to this photograph. (i couldn't find a good image of "dead troops talk")
So that was my big adventure for the day.
